Slice and Spurgeon

I read a very beautiful article Slice of Laodicea had posted the other day.  It reminded me of what the Lord revealed to me through His Word over 3 years ago.  I’m so glad that He has chosen to reveal these things to little children and not many wise or noble.  Let this teaching rest upon your hearts, in good soil.

The Last Adam

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. (1Corinthians 15:45}

Here is an encouraging morning devotion from the “prince of preachers” Charles Haddon Spurgeon. We here at Slice pray you have a blessed day in the Lord!

“Jesus is the federal head of His elect. As in Adam, every heir of flesh and blood has a personal interest, because he is the covenant head and representative of the race as considered under the law of works; so under the law of grace, every redeemed soul is one with the Lord from heaven, since He is the Second Adam, the Sponsor and Substitute of the elect in the new covenant of love. The apostle Paul declares that Levi was in the loins of Abraham when Melchizedek met him: it is a certain truth that the believer was in the loins of Jesus Christ, the Mediator, when in old eternity the covenant settlements of grace were decreed, ratified, and made sure for ever. Thus, whatever Christ hath done, He hath wrought for the whole body of His Church.”

“We were crucified in Him and buried with Him (see-Col 2:10-13), and to make it still more wonderful, we are risen with Him and even ascended with Him to the seats on high – ‘And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus’ (Eph. 2:6). It is thus that the Church has fulfilled the law, and is ‘accepted in the beloved.’ It is thus that she is regarded with complacency by the just Jehovah, for He views her in Jesus, and does not look upon her as separate from her covenant head. As the Anointed Redeemer of Israel, Christ Jesus has nothing distinct from his Church, but all that He has He holds for her. Adam’s righteousness was ours so long as he maintained it, and his sin was ours the moment that he committed it; and in the same manner, all that the Second Adam is or does, is ours as well as His, seeing that He is our representative. Here is the foundation of the covenant of grace. This gracious system of representation and substitution, which moved Justin Martyr to cry out, ‘Oh blessed change, O sweet permutation!’ this is the very groundwork of the gospel of our salvation, and is to be received with strong faith and rapturous joy.” (Morning and Evening, December 26)

Thank you for posting this timely article. I am also blessed by the clarifying comments posted by “freeburg”, above.
This very revelation through God’s Bible was also given to me by God about 3 years ago, after I had been a “christian” for 17 years. The doctrines of grace were teachings that God gave me to open the eyes of my understanding. When I realized that God had “chosen me before the foundation of the world” (Eph. 1:4) and that my salvation was completed (Col. 2:9-15) my whole life changed. I was changed by this revelation of what Christ had done for me and I literally got on my face before the Lord and worshipped Him. I no longer had to strive to please Him according to my works, but was humbled and full of joy to know that God had purposed in His plan to save me because He first loved me and knew me (John 10:27-28).
Thank you for this teaching about His Body that is so needed for the Church today.

    I have an idea in my head that someone will try to malign a very respected Northwest minister in the near future on some person’s site. There will be no other reason for this other than pure spite and to stir up strife against DP’s ministry since that is where that person first had conflict and it’s now biting back at them. Just a guess, I certainly could be very presumptious in this prediction, though.

    Yes, and I believe the emphasis will be Reconstructionism, Rushdoony and politics, because they have to build up their (MW/others) straw man arguments to take the emphasis on what the real argument is: That the Epsteins and their co-conspirators are lying about many things and stirring up strife and avoiding any accountability for their actions.
